Shellenberger Field to Host Two ODAC Playoff Games Saturday

LYNCHBURG, VA – The newly renovated turf of Shellenberger Field on the campus of Lynchburg College will serve as host for two first-round Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament games this Saturday. Five Lynchburg varsity athletic teams will be in action this weekend, three in ODAC playoff competition.

The Hornet field hockey team (15-2), the top seed in the eight-team tournament field, will face Sweet Briar College at 2 p.m. on Shellenberger and the program’s eight seniors will be honored prior to the contest. The men’s soccer squad (11-4-2), seeded second, will play #7 seed Randolph-Macon College at 7 p.m. on Shellenberger Field.

The volleyball team (15-12) hosts a tri-match Saturday in Turner Gymnasium, playing Mountain State University (WV) at 11 a.m. and Hood College (MD) at 4 p.m., with MSU and Hood squaring off at 1:30 p.m. The program’s two seniors will be recognized before the LC/Hood match.

The other athletic events will take place off campus this weekend. The women’s soccer team (10-5-3) will travel to Eastern Mennonite University Saturday for a first-round ODAC match at 6 p.m. The LC men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Harrisonburg, VA for the ODAC Championships, with action starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. The LC equestrian team co-hosts a riding show today at 2 p.m. at the Randolph-Macon Woman’s College Riding Center.

Three of the Hornet teams enter the weekend’s play with momentum. The field hockey team has won 10 straight times, while the men’s soccer and volleyball squads have won six-straight matches each.
