Hornet Men’s Soccer Upsets #22 Ranked Wash & Lee 2-0
Junior Modou Jobarteh Nets both Goals

LEXINGTON, VA – Junior forward Modou Jobarteh (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy) scored twice early in the second half to give the Lynchburg College men’s soccer team a 2-0 win over Washington & Lee University in an important regular-season Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match. With the win - Hornets will enter the upcoming ODAC Championship Tournament as the #2 seed.

The contest was scoreless at halftime, but Matthew Lombardo (Virginia Beach, VA/Floyd Kellam) found Jobarteh at 56:47 to give LC a 1-0 lead. Jobarteh struck again just 26 seconds later from Josh Reed (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) and the Hornets held on for the 2-0 win.

The Hornets out shot W&L 12-9 and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Junior Marcus Jordan (Lynchburg, VA/Germantown) made five stops to preserve the shutout. Ted Sheedy made four saves for 22nd-ranked Washington & Lee (11-2-2/6-2-1 ODAC).

The win is the Hornets’ sixth-straight victory, and puts Lynchburg at 11-4-2 overall and 6-1-2 in the conference. LC will host a first-round playoff game this Saturday with the opponent, time and site to be determined. The semi-finals and finals the eight-team tournament are scheduled for Nov. 3-4.
