Lynchburg Field Hockey Wins an ODAC Thriller 3-2 in Double Overtime
Hornets Clinch the #1 Seed for the ODAC Tournament

LYNCHBURG, VA – Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) scored the game winner for Lynchburg College from Paige Bennett (Goshen, CT/Wamogo Regional) at the 3:57 mark in the second overtime to defeat Washington & Lee 3-2 on Tuesday. The win clinched the #1 seed for Lynchburg College for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament, and gives the Hornets the regular season conference title.

Amy Volkmann opened the scoring for the Generals early in the first half, and Samantha Howard (Fairfax Station, VA/W.T. Woodson) tied the game two minutes later off an Allie Weir pass. Kay Dyt added the Generals second first-half goal to send Washington & Lee into the half with a 2-1 lead. Morgan Crandall (Belfast, ME/Belfast) knotted the score at 2-2 off a penalty stroke at the 55:34 mark.

Lynchburg outshot Washington & Lee (13-5/7-1 ODAC) 27-12 and enjoyed a 28-5 advantage in penalty corners. Elizabeth Foskey (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) recorded three saves for the Hornets while Tara Rubenstein stopped seven shots for the Generals. Signey Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) added two defensive saves for Lynchburg.

Lynchburg (14-2/8-0 ODAC) will host their first-round ODAC Tournament game against Sweet Briar College on Saturday at a time to be determined.
