Allie Weir Scores Twice as Lynchburg Field Hockey Defeats Mary Washington

LYNCHBURG, VA – Freshman Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) scored two goals and tallied an assist to lead the Lynchburg field hockey team to a 4-1 win over Mary Washington Thursday in a non-conference game.

Laura Christianson (Virginia Beach, VA/Tallwood) scored the first goal at 8:51 in to the game to send LC into the half with a 1-0 lead. At the 38:16 mark, Jena Elliott would tie the game for Mary Washington. Weir later added the game-winning goal off a pass from Arianna Kleeman (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) in the 50th minute to send LC to victory. Weir added another goal off a feed from Rachel Sherman (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton), while Melissa Seipel (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) added an insurance goal off a pass from Weir.

Lynchburg out shot Mary Washington 32-10 and enjoyed a 19-8 edge in penalty corners. Katherine Brown recorded 12 saves for Mary Washington (8-5).

Lynchburg (12-2) returns to action on Saturday, October 21, as they travel to Lancaster, PA, to face Franklin and Marshall College.
