Lynchburg Men’s Soccer Pulls Out a 3-1 Upset Win Against Hampden Sydney

AMHERST, VA – The Lynchburg College men’s soccer team scored three goals late in the second half to defeat conference-leading Hampden-Sydney College 3-1 Wednesday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference(ODAC) clash.

Hampden-Sydney went into the first-half leading 1-0 off a Jason Butler goal. At the 71:01 mark, Modou Jobarteh (Silver Spring, MD) scored an unassisted goal to tie the game. Phil Francois (West Windsor, NJ) scored the game-winner in the 81st minute, and Brian Cocchiola (Midlothian, VA) added an insurance goal off a pass from Francois in the 86th minute. Marcus Jordan (Lynchburg, VA) recorded four saves for the Hornets.

Lynchburg out shot the Tigers 18-9 and enjoyed an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. Ben Marchetti recorded eight saves for Hampden-Sydney (8-3-2/4-2-1 ODAC) and Reed Westra added an assist.

Lynchburg (7-4-2/3-1-2 ODAC) returns to action on Saturday against Bridgewater College at Amherst High School at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.
