Roanoke Defeats LC Women’s Soccer 2-1

SALEM, VA – The Roanoke College women’s soccer team defeated visiting Lynchburg College Wednesday afternoon 2-1 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.

The Hornets out shot Roanoke 5-2 in the first period, but neither team could score in the first half. Just four minutes after intermission, Kristen McCoy scored from Meredith Grunewald and the Maroons hung on to the 1-0 lead for most of the rest of the game. McCoy fed Grunewald for a much-needed insurance goal in the closing minutes, but the Hornets got on the board at the 87:33 mark as senior Christina DiLiddo (Sutton, MA/Holy Name) scored from freshman Corie Coles (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown).

The Hornets out shot their hosts 14-6 and held a 2-0 edge in corner kicks. Erin Hanson made six saves for Roanoke (5-2-1/2-1 ODAC).

The Hornets (6-2-1/3-1 ODAC) travel to Guilford College Friday for another ODAC contest at 4 p.m.
