LC and EMU Men’s Soccer Play to 2-2 Double OT Tie

HARRISONBURG, VA – The Eastern Mennonite University men’s soccer team trailed 2-1 Tuesday against Lynchburg College late in the contest, but scored in the final two minutes of regulation and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest ended in a 2-2 double overtime tie.

Hornet junior Maurwyn Bowen (Gaithersburg, MD/Seneca Valley) scored in the 62nd minute of the second half from Joe Jewell (Fairfax Station, VA/W.T. Woodson) to put Lynchburg ahead 2-1. But Eastern Mennonite’s Benjamin Yoder headed in the equalizer with just under 1:30 left in the contest and neither team could score in each of the sudden-goal, 10-minute overtime periods. Cory Parsons scored the game’s first goal for EMU, and LC’s Stephen Brooks (Vienna, VA/Paul VI Catholic) scored from Phil Francois (West Windsor, NJ/Princeton) to tie the game at one just after intermission.

The Hornets held an 18-11 advantage in shots while EMU (5-3-2/1-1-1 ODAC) had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Junior goalie Marcus Jordan (Lynchburg, VA/Germantown) made six stops for the Hornets.

Lynchburg (5-3-1/1-1-1 ODAC) hosts Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday at 7 p.m. in another conference clash at Amherst High School.
