CNU Defeats LC Field Hockey 7-3

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Christopher Newport University field hockey team scored three second-half goals to break open a close game and defeat Lynchburg College 7-3 Wednesday.

The Lady Captains led 4-3 at halftime and scored the only three goals of the second half, two in the last five minutes, to put the game away.

Freshman Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) and junior Jessi Bowman (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) each had a goal and an assist, while Morgan Crandall (Belfast, ME/Belfast) netted a penalty stroke.

CNU (5-2) out shot Lynchburg 11-6 and had a 6-4 edge in penalty corners.

The Hornets (also 5-2), host Shenandoah University Friday at 4 p.m. on Fox Field.
