LC Men’s Soccer Defeats E&H 5-0

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men’s soccer team defeated visiting Emory & Henry College Saturday afternoon 5-0 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match.

The Hornets got on the board 20 minutes in as Modou Jobarteh (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy) scored from Maurwyn Bowen (Gaithersburg, MD/Seneca Valley). Ishmael Sunday (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall Coplay) scored an unassisted tally just before the half and LC went into intermission ahead 2-0. The Hornets put the game out of reach just after the break with goals by Brandon Flowers (Waynesboro, VA/Stuarts Draft) and Bowen within a 15-second span of each other. Casey Zambor (Jackson, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and Brian Cocchiola (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) assisted on the tallies.

Emory & Henry (4-2-1/0-1 ODAC) keeper Matt Martinez made 12 saves as Lynchburg held a 43-5 edge in shots and a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.

The Hornets (5-1/1-0 ODAC) host Emory University Sunday at 2 p.m. at Amherst High School.
