For immediate release – 9/15/2006 - #029 Lynchburg Field Hockey Defeats EMU 6-2
HARRISONBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated Eastern Mennonite University 6-2 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match Friday night.
The Hornets opened a 4-1 halftime edge behind two goals and an assist from senior Laura Christianson (Virginia Beach, VA/Tallwood). Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) scored two second half goals to put the game away. Morgan Crandall (Belfast, VA/Belfast) had a goal and an assist, Jessi Bowman (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) scored and Samantha Howard (Fairfax Station, VA/W.T. Woodson) had two assists.
Senior Elizabeth Foskey (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) made nine saves. Eastern Mennonite out shot Lynchburg 18-14 and had a 13-5 edge in penalty corners.
Eastern Mennonite falls to 3-3 on the season.
The Hornets (4-1/2-0 ODAC) travel to St. Mary’s College (MD) Sunday for a non-conference match at 1 p.m.
