Haverford Wins Tournament in Penalty Kick Shootout

HAVERFORD, PA – The Lynchburg College women’s soccer team played to a 0-0 double overtime tie Sunday at Haverford College, but the Fords won the penalty kick shootout 4-2 to capture the Haverford Kickoff Tournament title.

The Hornets out shot Haverford 6-1 in the first half and 6-3 in the second, but couldn’t find the back of the net. In the second 10-minute overtime period, LC put the pressure on with seven shots, but Ford keeper Lindsay Festa made three of her eight saves in the final period to force the shoot out.

LC out shot Haverford 20-4 overall and had an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalie Ashley Taylor-Fuller (Mt. Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) and the LC defense posted their second-straight shutout.

Lynchburg (1-0-1) will compete in the Guilford College Classic next weekend, opening with Chowan College Saturday at 3 p.m.
