Hornet 2006-07 Athletic Season Opens as XC Team Competes at Va. Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Lynchburg College men’s and women’s cross country teams kicked off the 2006-07 athletic campaign for the school Saturday morning at the Virginia Wesleyan College Marlin Invitational.

Lynchburg’s men took second in the eight-team field, paced by sophomore Ricky Flynn’s (Gaithersburg, VA/Damascus) fourth-place finish in 27:51. Ryan Call (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) was 12th in 28:44, Jeremy Falke (Ashland, VA/Patrick Henry) placed 13th in 28:47 and Patrick Jacobs (Bloomingdale, NJ/Butler) was 17th in 29 minutes flat. Kevin Peggs (Richmond, VA/Monacan) was 19th in 29:12 and Joe Tyvela (Damascus, MD/ Damascus) rounded out the LC top six in 22nd in 29:19.

The Hornet women were fifth out of eight squads, led by senior Ashley Armistead (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) in 19th in a time of 21:53. Shelby O’Rourke (Bay Shore, NY/West Islip) placed 25th in 22:25, Megan Donnelly (McLean, VA/McLean) was 26th in 22:27 and C.C. Capranica (St. Michaels, MD/Easton) took 32nd in her first collegiate race (23:38). Emily Gannon (Ardmore, Haverford) finished 35th in 23:51 and Jaime Thompson (Pompano Beach, FL/Westminster Academy) placed 39th in 24:29.

Lynchburg travels to Virginia Tech next weekend.
