Beth Carter Announced as Lynchburg College interim Volleyball Coach

LYNCHBURG, VA – Former two-time first-team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) honoree Beth Carter was been named the interim head volleyball coach at Lynchburg College on Tuesday.

Beth CarterCarter, named to the All-ODAC first-teams in 2000 and 2001, was a first-team All-State selection in 2001 as well. She holds the school records for kills in a match (29), season (478 in 2001) and for a career (1,240 from 1998-2001). Carter also set the conference record for kills in a season in 2001.

Carter returned to the program in 2004 and assisted head coach Dr. Marie Lewis for two seasons until Lewis’ retirement this spring. She had also assisted at Heritage High School from 2002-04 and was the junior varsity coach.

"Beth brings youthful enthusiasm and a familiarity to the program," said LC director of athletics Dr. Jack Toms. "Having worked the last two seasons with our current student-athletes should make the transition easier. We look forward to the continued success of the Lynchburg volleyball team."

Carter also currently serves regional program manager for the Virginia Skyline Girl Scouts. She graduated in 2002 from Lynchburg with a B.A. in human development and learning and earned her Masters in Educational Leadership degree this summer.

The Hornets, 12-16 in 2005, open their 2006 slate September 2-3 at the Averett University Tournament in Danville, VA.
