Caroline Cubbage Named State Softball Player of the Year
Four other Hornets Honored

DANVILLE, VA – Lynchburg College junior right fielder Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) was recently named the Virginia State College Division Softball Player of the Year by the Virginia State Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Cubbage was the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2006, while batting .489 with 17 homers. She was also selected as a first team All-America and All-Atlantic Region team member in 2006. Cubbage set school records for home runs, doubles, slugging percentage, and RBIs. She also helped lead Lynchburg to a 30-15 overall record, which included a 12-6 mark in ODAC play.

Senior designated player/catcher Brittany Edelen (Aquasco, MD/St. Mary’s Ryken) and sophomore first baseman Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) joined Cubbage on the all-state first-team. Edelen earned third-team All-American honors recently and was also a first-team All-ODAC honoree, hit .364 for the season with 11 doubles, six home runs, 37 runs scored and 44 RBI. She hit her way into the starting lineup in early April and delivered seven home runs and seven doubles in just 85 at bats. Swank finished the season with a .353 average and a .706 slugging percentage, and also earned first-team all-conference and second-team All-Region accolades.

Senior outfielder Lauren Lancaster (Bent Mountain, VA/Cave Spring) earned honorable mention honors. Lancaster was second on the team with a .394 average, scored 50 runs, and led the conference with 20 stolen bases.
