Roanoke Downs LC 21-15 to Win ODAC Title

Box Score

SALEM, VA – Roanoke College outscored Lynchburg College 17-8 in the final three periods Sunday to defeat the Hornets 21-15 and win the 2006 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men’s Lacrosse Tournament title. The Maroons earn the ODAC automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, while LC will await the announcement of the tournament field this evening.

The Hornets jumped out to a 7-4 first quarter lead, thanks to two goals each from Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and Ryan Quick (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle). Roanoke reeled off seven-straight second quarter tallies before Lynchburg scored again just before the half, and RC entered halftime with an 11-8 edge. Roanoke scored the first four goals of the second half to provide a healthy cushion.

Sophomore Johnny Black (Timonium, MD/St. Paul’s) scored five times for Lynchburg, four in the second half. Quick had three goals and two assists, Tolson had three scores, while A.J. Tinklepaugh (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) scored twice. Brian Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) posted a goal and two assists and Adam Gift (Centreville, VA/Westfield) had two assists.

Chris Keating had three goals and three assists for Roanoke (13-2), while Matt Duke, Zack Thomas and Jon Mason each found the back of the net three times. Chaz Carlson tallied two goals and two assists and Scott Pattison and Billy Cameron each had two goals. Roanoke out shot LC 54-42 and won 21 of the game’s 38 face-offs.
