Amanda Hutchins Scores GW Goal in Overtime as Roanoke Women’s Lax Defeats LC 15-14

LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore attack Amanda Hutchins found the back of the net with :38 seconds on the game clock in overtime, giving the Roanoke College women’s lacrosse a 15-14 overtime victory over Lynchburg College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament quarterfinal action.

RC and LC played a see-saw first half, with Roanoke scoring two goals to open the scoring, followed by a two-goal spurt to knot the score at two. RC netted two more goals, but Lynchburg would score the last five goals of the half to enter intermission with a 7-4 lead.

After a Kelly Vornadore (Springfield, VA/Bishop Ireton) goal opened the second stanza scoring, the Maroons scored four of the next five goals to tie the game at nine. Roanoke took a 13-12 lead into the closing minutes, but again Vornadore buried a goal to tie the game and send it to a extra period.

The Hornets got an early goal by Caitlin Green (White Hall, MD/Hereford) in the overtime session, but RC’s Rachel Hutchinson scored the equalizer, setting up Hutchins’ heroics.

Green and Vornadore finished with a game-high four goals each for LC, with Sarah Rahl (Kennebunk, ME/Kennebunk) netting three scores. Nichole Locher (Yorktown Hts., NY/Yorktown) scored once and dished out a team-high three assists, while Cressita Bowman (Dallas, TX/Greenhill) scored twice.

Hutchins finished with four goals and two assists, while Chelsea Rankin netted three goals, and Kally Perkins and Ella Wade both had two scores for RC (10-7).

Lynchburg ends its 2006 season with a 7-6 record.
