Hornet Baseball Tops Southern Virginia 12-9

BOX SCORE

LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore shortstop Ronnie Labrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) was 5-6 with four runs batted in and two runs scored, as the Lynchburg College baseball team defeated Southern Virginia University Thursday 12-9 in the final game at Fox Field this season.

LC (20-15) jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one inning, two thanks to a Steven Scott (Chesterfield, VA/Manchester) single. SVU tied the game at five in the fifth inning, but a pair of runs in both the bottom halves of the fifth and sixth innings put the Hornets up for good.

Scott finished the game 3-5 with a run scored, and Lucas Jones (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) was 2-4 with two runs. Senior Kevin Nichol (Mosely, VA/Clover Hill) was 2-4 with three runs and two RBI, both coming on a long homer to leftfield, while Wayne Stuart (Pace, FL/Greenbriar Christian) reached in all three plate appearances, scoring twice.

Greg Larson was a perfect 4-4 for the Knights (12-17), and Micheal Bowen connected on a three run homer finishing 3-4 with five knocked in.

The Hornets will travel to Salem, VA for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader with Roanoke College Saturday at noon at Salem’s Kiwanis Field.
