Academics
The mission of our Residence Life program here at Lynchburg College is to "develop safe and secure residential communities which foster the development of learning and growth." With that in mind, our FYE program has been very responsive in taking the academic needs of our freshman into consideration. By having a residence hall solely for first year students, we have been able to cater to the educational needs of our students. It also enables our staff to front load academic support and other services pertinent to the success of first year students.
Beginning in the fall of '06, we will be implementing a computer lab, study lounge, and available classroom space within Montgomery Hall. This newly created space will provide Montgomery Hall residents with the opportunity to study outside of their rooms, as well as receive tutoring and academic support. Partnerships have been developed with both the PASS tutoring program and the Writing Center to hold office hours and study sessions within Montgomery Hall.
In addition to the academic enrichment initiatives, many of our programs are tailored to educate first year students on topics relevant to their success here at Lynchburg College, including health and wellness issues, interpersonal skills, and diversity training. These community development efforts are achieved on all floors with each Resident Assistant, as well as building wide programs and resources, including the monthly Snack-A-Demic Success Series and the FYE Newsletter.
