Community Development & Programming
The key component to the success of the First Year Experience (FYE) Program in Montgomery and Tate halls is community development. A primary responsibility of the FYE resident assistants (RAs) is building strong, cohesive floor communities that are welcoming and supportive of all members.
A program is a session organized by our RA Staff for their residents. FYE RAs complete both informal and formal programming each month to bring residents together and to continue bringing members of the community together. These sessions are designed and planned not only for the residents' enjoyment, but also to help educate them and make them familiar with Lynchburg College.
The resident assistant staff will work with each floor to plan programs that draw upon and expand the interests of their residents. This is also a great opportunity for Montgomery and Tate residents to take ownership and leadership on their floor by assisting their RA with the planning of programs and designing of floor bulletin boards.
On a monthly basis, Mont and Tate RAs plan FYE programs that focus on first-year in college-specific topics. RAs typically partner with campus partners to introduce students to campus and community resources.
Another initiative is the Monthly Dinner program in which the staff cooks for both buildings on the last Sunday of every month. This is a great opportunity for residents to interact with those from other floors as well as have a home cooked meal. This program will continue to be a vital community development effort within Montgomery and Tate halls.
