Special Interest Housing

Timelines and Due Dates | Special Interest Housing Information | College-Owned Houses

Greetings! I am sure at this time you are very excited about applying for one of our Special Interest housing options. We take a great deal of pride in providing many affordable options for our students to meet their housing needs. We firmly believe that satisfaction with one’s living environment translates into success in other areas of the college as well, including academics. To that end, we are committed to providing you with housing that will match your needs. It is really important, as you go through this process, that you choose roommates that will match your needs and lifestyle. Sometimes, living with your best friend is not always the best environment for either person. We ask that you be honest with yourself and with others so that they know what to expect.

We have really tried to streamline this process, provide accurate information upfront, and be as student friendly as possible. Please take the time to review all of this information enclosed and follow the deadlines and instructions. We have a great deal of people applying for limited facilities so it is important that everything is complete and accurate. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Special Interest Housing decisions are awarded based on the group being a recognized organization, the group’s commitment, advisor’s support, past record, as well as an interview with the Office of Residence Life.

  • We certainly want your input with placement and will do our best to meet your requests; however, that might not always be the case. If your application is accepted, we cannot guarantee first, second, or third preference placements.

  • There is a limited number of Special Interest houses available. Those groups not awarded houses will be asked to participate in regular Southside sign-ups for the upcoming year. This process is based on GPA, seniority, and group involvement including judicial record.

The Office of Residence Life is truly committed to serving the needs of our students and in providing you with the best housing options. Please take the time to THOROUGHLY read and follow the deadlines outlined. And as always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
