Hornet Men’s Lax Outlasts #16 Hampden-Sydney 8-6

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – The second-ranked Lynchburg College men’s lacrosse team outlasted #16 Hampden-Sydney College 8-6 Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match-up. Sophomore goalie Garrett Curran (Hull, MA/Tabor Academy) made 15 saves to help the Hornets win the contest despite being out shot 44-25.

Lynchburg jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter, but the Tigers rallied to trail 5-3 at halftime. Hampden-Sydney controlled the third quarter and tied the game at five heading into the fourth period. Lynchburg found the back of the net early in the fourth quarter and held on to post the win.

Senior midfielder Brian Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) scored twice for Lynchburg, while A.J. Tinklepaugh (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson), Ryan Quick (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle), Terry Schrecker (Keswick, VA/St. Anne’s Belfield), Adam Gift (Centreville, VA/Westfield), Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and Scott McAlee (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) each scored once.

Michael Via had two goals for H-SC (6-4/2-2 ODAC).

Lynchburg (9-0/3-0 ODAC) travels to top-ranked Salisbury University Tuesday for a battle of the #1 and #2 teams in the nation at 4 p.m.
