Hornet Track Qualifies Four for Nationals at Liberty
LYNCHBURG, VA – Four members of the Lynchburg College outdoor track & field team qualified provisionally for national competition Saturday at Liberty University.
Freshman Chris Martin (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry) leaped 46’11.75" in the triple jump to put himself in a spot to compete at the Division III National Championships in May. The LC 4x100 relay team of McKinley Johnson (Madison Heights, VA/Amherst County), Richard Noles (Chesterfield, VA/Mancester), Martin and Xavier Sayles (Richmond, VA/Manchester) ran a 41.68, placing second in the event and also qualifying provisionally for nationals. Sayles ran a 22.35 in the 200-meters, Johnson finished the 400-meters in 57.38, while Scott Decker (Clifton, VA/Robinson) cleared 14’9.5" in the pole vault.
Amanda Darling (Lyman, DE/Thornton Academy) had a heave of 81’6.75" in the javelin, while Amanda Diver (Boxford, MA/Masconomet) finished the 2:31.15 in the 800-meters. Danielle Garafalo (Boxford, MA/Masconomet) finished the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.62.
The Hornets travel to Duke University next Friday and Saturday.
