Lynchburg Baseball Splits a Pair With Randolph-Macon
ASHLAND, VA – The Lynchburg College Baseball team split a double header with Old Dominion Athletic Conference-rival Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets won the opener, 6-5, then fell in the nightcap by a score of 11-6.
In game one, LC broke open a 3-3 game in the top of the sixth inning with three runs. The Yellow Jackets climbed to within one run with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Hornet senior right hander Robert Lydick (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) recorded the final two outs to earn his first save of the season.
Senior centerfielder Steven Scott (Chesterfield, VA/Manchester) led LC at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a triple and one RBI. Senior third baseman Lucas Jones (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) batted 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Senior right hander John Hines (Smithfield, VA/Smithfield) hurled six innings of seven-hit ball to improve to 4-2 on the season.
In the nightcap, Randolph-Macon (17-8, 8-2) used two runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth frame to earn the win. Jones again paced the Hornets at the dish, going 3-for-5 with a homerun and two RBI. Sophomore leftfielder Matt Winston (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) added a 2-for-2 day with a pair of RBI, while junior right hander Jason Kelly (Colonial Heights, VA/Colonial Heights) was saddled with the loss (2-2) after allowing three earned runs and eight hits in six innings of work.
Lynchburg (15-10, 3-7) returns to the diamond on Tuesday at 3:00 pm as it hosts Greensboro College for a single game.
