  • How do I set up an account?
Go to the College Account Application. Complete it and then print out, sign and either fax or mail the signature card to the bookstore to activate the account. Parent and student signatures are required on the signature card. Should a dispute arise regarding a purchase, the signature on the charge ticket is compared to the signature card.

  • Which account type (debit or credit) will best suit my needs?
Answers to the following questions will assist you in determining which account option is right for you.

I want to limit my student's spending: Select debit account, deposit money in the account. You may deposit money into this account at any time. Quick deposit can be made online at www.lynchburg.edu/payments (select College Account payment - formerly Bookstore payment). You may also call by phone to use a credit card by calling the college's cashier's office at 434/544-8246. Deposits post at midnight if called in before 3 p.m. or done online before 9 a.m.

I want to use financial aid to pay the account: If you have designated financial aid to cover course materials, you will need to set up a college account and designate it as a charge account. Once your financial aid arrives at the college, all financial obligations will be paid prior to a refund check being issued. Your College Charge Account will be charged a finance charge each month it remains past due (18% APR) while waiting for the financial aid to arrive. Once the financial aid has paid the account, do not use the account until next semester. Students who charge on the account after their financial aid has paid the account must pay the balance monthly. A past due account will not be taken off hold regardless of future financial aid expected.

May I deposit money in the account at the start of the semester for books and when that is gone, get a bill home of small purchases?: Yes, this is a combination account. Deposit money into the account and designate a low limit. A limit on the account ensures you will not receive a bill home for more than the limit you specified. Please be aware that the delay time in off-campus pizza purchases being charged to accounts may cause the account to go over limit. The limit is revolving, so once you make a payment the credit limit is restored. Limits are not monthly limits in spending.

  • Do I have to pay the entire College Account balance monthly?
No, but your College Account will be charged a finance charge each month it remains past due (18% APR). After 60 days past due, the account is placed on hold until the entire balance is paid. Account balances are billed at the end of the month the purchases are made. Account balances become past due and are charged a finance charge at the end of the following month. You may pay the account off partially each month with the understanding that there is a finance charge and once the account becomes past due, the account can not be used until it is paid in full.

  • Do I have to set up a College Account?
No. Purchases on campus can be made with cash, personal check from student's home account, personal check from local bank, check card/debit card, Visa/MasterCard/Discover credit cards, a check from a parent is accepted in the bookstore -- (leave blank and store will make for exact amount of purchase. Please remember that if you make out the check to LC bookstore, cash back to the student should be less than $100). We do not accept parent credit cards from students.

  • May I set it up so the College Account is paid monthly by a credit card?
Fill out the Paying Account by Credit Card Each Month application form. Indicate the amount to be paid monthly or balance if you would like the balance to be paid. Accounts are placed on hold when the entire balance has not been paid in 60 days. Once an account is placed on hold the entire balance (old and current) must be paid for the account to be taken off hold. Print out the agreement at the link above, sign and mail or fax.

  • How does the limit on the charge account work?
How do I change the limit on the account?

The credit limit is revolving. The charge limit is restored by the amount of payment applied to the account. The limit is not a monthly charge limit. Changes in account limit can be requested in writing via mail, fax 434/544-8243 or email (winnagle@lynchburg.edu or farley@Lynchburg.edu) if the account authorizer lists an email address on the account application that can be verified in lieu of a signature. When requesting changes to account, please print student's name and Social Security number, the change requested, day time phone number and the signature of the person who authorized the account.

  • What is the difference between the College Account and the LC Express account?
The LC Express account is strictly a debit food account and can only be used at designated food locations on campus. It does not include the bookstore, Hornet Shop, off-campus pizza delivery or campus post office. LC Express supplements the meal plan or can be a meal option for students not required to have a meal plan. The LC Express includes the Dinning Hall, Donald's Bagels in Centennial Hall, Stinger's Coffee 'N Such, and Westover Room. Funds deposited to the LC Express can be refunded or transferred to meet other financial obligations as long as they are not designated as meal plan required by the College. The Hornet Plan is strictly a meal plan--that acts like the LC Express account and can be used at the same campus locations--and Hornet Plan funds are not refundable.

The College Account can be set up as a charge account or a debit account or both. If you have additional questions about the College Account, please call 434/544-8239 (voice mail option 5) to speak with Golda Winnagle. If you have additional questions about the LC Express account or Hornet Plan, please call 434/544-8606 to speak with Mary Hunt.

  • Why should I set up a College Account?
If you need an option to pay for books at the start of the semester, that would be one reason. If you are receiving financial aid and need a temporary account to charge course materials. Another reason would be the convenience of not having to carry cash to make purchases on campus.

  • How long does it take to set up a College Account?
It does depend on the time of year. The earlier you set up the account the better. Our promise is that it will take no longer than two business days (48 hours) during the busy time at the start of the semester.

  • How does the Off Campus Pizza Delivery Service Work?
Each year Lynchburg College partners with an off campus pizza provider who will deliver to campus. Domino's Pizza is this year's provider. If the College Account is authorized for off-campus pizza delivery, the student account holder's name will be listed on a weekly report given to Domino's Pizza, if the account has at least $100 funds/credit available. Students can call in a pizza order and must show their LC I.D. and sign the purchase ticket at delivery. The purchase will appear on the College Account one to two weeks after delivery. Limits may be adjusted on accounts to accommodate the delay in charging to the account. Off-campus pizza charging can be restricted up on request or dispute. Questions regarding off-campus pizza charging can be directed to Shaun Dearden by calling 434/544-8143 or emailing dearden@lynchburg.edu .

  • I have financial aid coming in to pay for my course materials ----so how do I buy them?
If you are an independent student, complete the College Account application online and check charge account. If you are a dependent student, you will need your parent/guardian's signature on the College Account signature card in order to open a charge account. The authorizing signature agrees to pay for all purchases made beyond what financial aid covers. Once your financial aid arrives at the college, all financial obligations will be paid prior to a refund check being issued. Your College Charge Account will be charged an 18% APR finance charge each month it remains past due while waiting for the financial aid to arrive. Once the financial aid has paid the account, do not use the account until next semester. Students who charge on the account after their financial aid has paid the account must pay the balance monthly. A past due account will not be taken off hold regardless of future financial aid expected. You may pay for course materials with other payment options, cash, check, or credit card and if financial aid remains after all financial obligations to the college have been met, you will be issued a refund check.

  • If I have financial aid coming in, may I use my College Account?
First, make sure you have opened an account if you are expecting financial aid. You may use your account as long as the account is not on hold. Prevent your account from being placed on hold, by not using the account after your financial aid has paid the balance or by paying for charges to the account monthly after your aid has posted to the account.
