For immediate release – 3/16/2006 - #241 LC Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Averett 15-10 LYNCHBURG, VA – Eleven different Hornets found the back of the net Thursday as the Lynchburg College women’s lacrosse team defeated Averett University 15-10 in non-conference play. The Hornets led 8-2 at the break before the Cougars started a comeback. AU scored eight of the second half’s first 12 goals to cut the Lynchburg advantage to 12-10, but LC rallied to post the last three scores. Nichole Locher (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) and Marissa Wilson (Friendship, MD/Calverton School) each had two goals and an assist, while Kaitlyn Johnston (Herndon, VA/Herndon) and Deana Welsch (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) had two goals. Kelly Vornadore (Springfield, VA/Bishop Ireton) and Allison Vezzetti (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) each had a goal and an assist. Darcie Jones had five scores for Averett (5-2) and Vanessa Jordan posted three. Kaylee Black had two goals and an assist – and Dawn Sheets made 13 stops. Lynchburg (2-1) travels to Christopher Newport University Sunday for a non-conference match-up at 1 p.m. ### |
