Hornet Softball Defeats R-MWC 11-1; 12-1

LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) drilled three home runs and had nine RBI on the day as the Lynchburg College softball team swept an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College 11-1 and 12-1 in five innings each.

Cubbage was 4-4, swatted a double and two home runs, and drove in seven Hornets in the opener. Brittany Edelen (Aquasco, MD/St. Mary’s Ryken) doubled twice and Lauren Lancaster (Bent Mountain, VA/Cave Spring) was 2-4 with two runs scored. Larissa Roscher (Centreville, VA/Westfield) and Ali Manns (Weaverville, NC/North Buncombe) combined for a two-hitter, allowing no earned runs in five innings.

Cubbage homered again in the second game, knocking in three runs and scoring twice. Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) went 3-3, Edelen was 2-2 with two RBI, and Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) was 2-3 with two runs scored. Freshman hurler Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) went the distance, allowing no earned runs on two hits, striking out five WildCat hitters.

The Hornets (12-2/2-0 ODAC) are back in action this Saturday, when they travel to Christopher Newport University for a non-conference double-dip at 1 p.m.
