The contest was tied at five at halftime and Villa Julie scored three-straight times to take a 9-8 lead entering the fourth quarter. The teams traded early fourth-period goals and the Mustangs had another disallowed on an illegal stick penalty. The Hornets tied the score during the subsequent three-minute extra-man advantage on an Adam Gift (Centreville, VA/Westfield) tally, and neither team could score in the final 9:31 of regulation or the first four-minute overtime period. With 1:11 showing left in the second sudden-death overtime session, Kemper ended the game 66:49 after it began. Four Hornets scored twice, as Ryan Quick (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle), Adam Gift (Centreville, VA/Westfield), Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and A.J. Tinklepaugh (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) each found the back of the net two times. Brian McCulloch was credited with two helpers, while Gift, Quick and Tolson added assists. Matthew Healey, Andy Bishop-Woelfel, Dustin Harlowe and Matt Miller each scored twice for Villa Julie (2-2). Kenny Reid had a goal and an assist while goalie Jason Woodford made 14 stops. The statistics were almost identical in ground balls (LC-42; VJC 40) and face-off wins (12 each). Lynchburg (4-0) hosts Messiah College Saturday at 2 p.m. in non-conference play on Shellenberger Field. ### |
