Lynchburg College Grants
- Eligible students will automatically be awarded Lynchburg College need-based grants upon acceptance to the College and receipt of the FAFSA results.
State Grant Programs

Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG) is a non-need-based state grant available to all Virginia Residents who attend a private college full-time in the Commonwealth of Virginia (VTAG is $2,650 for the 2011-2012 academic year).

Virginia College Scholarship Assistance Program (CSAP) awards grant up to $5,000 per academic year to undergraduate residents of Virginia who have exceptional need and who carry a full-time course load.

State Programs for Non-Virginia Residents are available to students whose home states provide grants for residents to attend college. Some states that offer portable need-based grants are Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Check with your local state agency.

Two-Year College Transfer Grant Program (CTG) In 2007 this program was passed into law in Virginia. If you are graduating with your associate degree you will need to complete and submit your FAFSA and your final academic transcript with your associate degree posted to us. If you need additional information on the Two-Year College Transfer Grant program, visit www.schev.edu/Students/factsheetTransferGrant.pdf. The base grant for all eligible full-time students is $1,000 ($500 per term). Students enrolling full-time into a science, teaching, engineering, mathematics (STEM) degree or nursing program may receive an additional $1,000 ($500 per term). Please be advised that state law requires that eligibility for state need-based grants, if any, may be adjusted due to the CTG award.

Teach Grant Through the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, Congress created the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program that provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. Federal Programs
- Federal Pell Grants provide assistance to exceptionally needy students in amounts up to $5,550 for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) provide assistance up to $4,000 for one academic year to exceptionally needy students who qualify for the Federal Pell Grants.
G.I. Bill
- Through Lynchburg College grants and the G.I. Bill, veterans who meet 100% Post 9/11 GI Bill eligibility and LC admissions requirements can attend Lynchburg College tuition-free.
- Benefits are available for undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Unused educational benefits may be transferred to children or spouses of qualifying veterans and active duty military.
Loans
- Federal Perkins Loans are need-based loans available through a campus-based program funded jointly by the federal government and Lynchburg College.
(Student Award Acceptance Form) - Federal Direct Stafford/Ford Loans provide up to $3,500 for first year students beginning July 1, 2009, $4,500 for second year students, and $5,500 in subsequent years of undergraduate study. Students who demonstrate need through the FAFSA are eligible for subsidized loans, students who do not demonstrate need based upon the FAFSA results are eligible for unsubsidized loans.
- Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) are specifically created for parents who prefer to use a credit-based loan to pay any remaining balance due the College after financial aid.
Work/Study Programs
- Federal Work-Study Program (FWS) is a federally funded, need-based student employment program to assist students who need extra earnings from employment to help meet college costs.
- College Work-Study Program (CWS) mirrors the FWS program but is funded by Lynchburg College.

Private/Outside Programs
- Community organizations sometimes make funds available to students on the basis of academic merit or planned field of study. A high school guidance counselor will know if such programs are available. Inquire at your church and with any civic organizations, labor unions, or parents' employers.
