Commuter students make up one-fourth of our undergraduate population. Some commuter students simply come to campus, attend classes, then depart for jobs or home. Others become actively involved in one or more of the 50+ student organizations recognized by our Student Government (SGA). The MACS office acts as a resource for commuters, offering assistance, information, emergency contact, and programming.
The Association of Commuter Students (ACS) was formed in the fall of 2002.
- The ACS sponsored several events last spring to unite the commuter students (announcements of these events are made via campus postings and e-mails).
- As a recognized LC organization, ACS receive funds allocated by SGA for programming.
- A portion of the activities fee paid by non-residential students goes directly to this group as well.
Services
- There is a lounge located in the terrace level of Town House #5 (Bullard) which provides a place for commuters to meet, study, socialize, eat, and relax.
- There are coin-operated lockers, comfortable seating, study tables, networked computer(s), two microwaves, a refrigerator, a telephone with free local access, and a TV/VCR in the lounge for use by our commuter students.
- Other services include the Access and Commuter News, a quarterly newsletter that outlines campus events, articles relative to non-residential students, and profiles an actively enrolled commuter student in each edition.
Commuter students can use the MACS telephone number, 434/544-8330, or e-mail address, macs@lynchburg.edu, as their campus contact for employers, family members, child care providers, etc. When contacted, MACS will make every reasonable effort to reach the student with his/her message including sending e-mail, posting a notice on the message board in the Access and Commuter lounge, and visiting a class site in case of emergency.
