Access Students

Access students, adult learners age 25 years or older, comprise approximately seven percent of our student population. The majority of our Access students are commuter students, although there is a small number of these students who reside on campus.

Access and Commuter Lounge

To meet the needs of our Access students, there is an Access and Commuter lounge located on the backside terrace level of Bullard House, townhome #5.

Access/Commuter Lounge

  • Students can prepare lunch, check e-mail, call home, watch television, store books, or just hang out.
  • The lounge contains microwave ovens, coin-operated lockers, a TV/DVD, telephone for local calls, and networked computers with a printer.
  • A message board is utilized to post notes or contact students in the event of emergencies or important messages.
  • The lounge is available for Access and commuters whenever the College is open, and is accessible by ID card scan.

Other Services

  • A quarterly newsletter is published and contains information on upcoming events, news, and general information.
  • There are many involvement opportunities open to our Access students, including membership in more than 70 clubs and organizations, on-campus employment, community service projects, and seats on the Student Government Association in Senate.
  • Meal plan options are available through the Business Office.

Special Accommodations

  • Such privileges include the ability to add/drop a course without an advisor's signature
  • Allowance of non-enrollment in courses up to four consecutive semesters without having to reapply
  • And a special Access discount rate of 64 percent on tuition and fees. (Please contact MACS with any specific questions you may have about being an Access student).

Putting Him/Her Through (PHT)

An annual event held for graduating Access students as part of the commencement festivities. Access students who graduate in January, May, or August are invited to bring persons who helped them achieve their goal of graduating to be honored at a formal reception. It is a very moving tribute to families, friends, co-workers, and faculty/staff of our students.
