Hornet Baseball Defeats Averett 7-3

DANVILLE, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team picked up its first win of the 2006 season Wednesday, downing Averett University 7-3 in non-conference play.

Senior John Hines (Smithfield, VA/Smithfield) worked six innings to earn the win, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out five Cougars. Senior Steven Scott (Chesterfield, VA/Manchester) went 2-4 with a solo home run, Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) was 2-3 with two runs while Justin Kelly (Colonial Heights, VA/Colonial Heights) was also 2-3 with a run scored and one driven in. Robert Lydick (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) threw two innings of hitless relief.

Lynchburg (1-1) travels to Atlanta, GA this weekend to compete in the four-team Rawlings Tournament, hosted by Emory University.
