Lynchburg Softball Opens 2006 Season with Doubleheader Sweep of Meredith
RALEIGH, NC – The Lynchburg College softball team started the 2006 season in dominating fashion Saturday, sweeping both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Meredith College, 19-3 and 20-1, both in five innings.
Senior Brittany Edelen (Aquasco, MD/St. Mary’s Ryken) was 3-4 in the first game with two RBI, while junior Morgan Austin (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee) was 2-4. Sophomore Shay Drake (Virginia Beach, VA/Granby) recorded the win on the mound for LC, going the distance while allowing seven hits.
Junior Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) was 3-4 in the nightcap, and added three RBI and two stolen bases. Danielle DiFranco (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) also had three hits and stole two bases, Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) was 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI while Austin had two doubles. Ali Manns (Weaverville, NC/North Buncombe) earned the win on the hill, allowing four hits in three innings.
The Hornets (2-0) host Southern Virginia University Friday at 2:30 p.m. in a non-conference twinbill.
