Lynchburg Baseball Drops 2006 Opener to Greensboro College 9-1

GREENSBORO, NC – The Lynchburg College baseball team managed just five hits in dropping a non-conference tilt to USA South foe Greensboro College 9-1 Wednesday afternoon.

Lynchburg starter Brandon Weaver (Chesapeake, VA/Oscar Smith) never got into a groove, throwing just two and two-thirds innings, giving up six earned runs on seven hits. Senior Eric Fitzsimmons (Southington, CT/Southington) worked four and a third, allowing just one earned run, before Jonathan Nichols (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) worked the last inning, giving up one earned run.

Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) plated the Hornets lone run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly, which scored Steven Scott (Chesterfield, VA/Manchester). Kevin Mock pitched got the win for Greensboro, working six innings, surrendering just one run. Three GC relievers combined to hold LC to just one hit over the last three innings.

Lynchburg (0-1) is back in action on Sunday, when #7 Alvernia College visits Fox Field in the home opener for LC. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
