In his 13 seasons at Lynchburg College, Dr. Todd Olsen has built a perennial conference and regional powerhouse, and a consistent NCAA postseason tournament participant. Since his arrival, the Hornets have posted ten winning campaigns and have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in seven of the past nine seasons, including the school’s first-ever NCAA soccer tournament win for either men or women, and a final eight trip in 2001. LC has also made final 16 appearances in back-to-back campaigns.

During his tenure, the team has compiled a 190-56-19 (72%) record. Also during that time, the squad has produced 25 all-region, 34 all-state, 68 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and four NCAA All-Americans. He earned his 200th win last fall against Randolph-Macon College.

Prior to his arrival at Lynchburg, Olsen served as head coach of the men’s team at the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown. While with the Mountain Cats, Olsen registered an overall record of 31-26-7 (54%).

Olsen has been very active in his pursuit of soccer education. He earned both his national coaching diploma at Notre Dame in 1995 and his advanced diploma at Colorado College in 1996 from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), he has continued to remain involved in all facets of the sport. He has served as a Select Team evaluator and coaching consultant in Virginia and Pennsylvania and is also an evaluator with the Olympic Development Program (ODP). He is currently coaching a U-18 premier select women’s team in Lynchburg.

A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Olsen received his bachelor’s degree in 1985 from Slippery Rock University, where he was a two-time academic all-America selection. After graduation, Olsen traveled to England and Loughborough University. There, he would earn his master’s degree in 1987 after completing a comprehensive soccer coaching regiment. In 1992, Olsen rounded out his academic career with a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.

Olsen also serves as a full-time faculty member in the department of health science and human performance. Among his courses are those which focus on exercise science and health science.

Assistant Coach Liz NickersonLiz Nickerson
Assistant Coach

Assistant coach Liz Nickerson, a native of Farmington, CT, returns to the sidelines for her fifth season as an assistant for the LC women’s soccer team. She previously was a member of the women’s soccer team at LC . She earned her bachelor’s degree from Lynchburg College with a double major of  health and movement science and exercise science - and minored in coaching. Nickerson is a certified strength and conditioning specialist.

Assistant Coach Kim VaughanKim Vaughan
Graduate Assistant 

Four-year letter winner Kim Vaughan moves to the LC sidelines this season. Vaughan, a two-time All-American and four-time all-conference and all-state midfielder from Baltimore, MD, received her bachelor's degree in sport management. Vaughan will be pursuing a master's degree in counseling at LC.



Assistant Coach Catherine AdamsCatherine Adams
Graduate Assistant

Catherine Adams moves from playing on the Hornet women's soccer team to assisting the squad this fall. Adams, a native of Lynchburg, VA, received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Adams will be continuing her passion for teaching, with enrolling in Lynchburg's Master's of Education program specializing in Reading.



Assistant Coach Steven OonanSteven Oonan
Assistant Coach

Oonan begins his first season at Lynchburg with the women's soccer program. Originally from Dublin, Ireland, he was a four-year starter with Bloomfield College men's soccer team (NJ). Oonan holds an English F.A. coaching license and a NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma. He is planning to complete the UEFA B coahcing license in 2008 - and is pursuing his masters degree in educational leadership at LC.
