Head Coach

Former two-time first-team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) honoree Beth Carter Ellinger completed her first season as the head volleyball coach at Lynchburg College.

The Hornets finished her first season with a 17-13 record and won eight matches in a row before the conference tournament. LC had two student-athletes named to the All-ODAC second-team.

Carter, named to the All-ODAC first-teams in 2000 and 2001, was a first-team All-State selection in 2001 as well. She holds the school records for kills in a match (29), season (478 in 2001) and for a career (1,240 from 1998-2001). Carter also set the conference record for kills in a season in 2001.

Carter returned to the program in 2004 and assisted head coach Dr. Marie Lewis for two seasons until Lewis’ retirement this spring. She had also assisted at Heritage High School from 2002-04 and was the junior varsity coach.

Carter also currently serves as a regional program manager for the Virginia Skyline Girl Scouts. She graduated in 2002 from Lynchburg with a B.A. in human development and learning and earned her Masters in Educational Leadership degree this summer.


Assistant Coach CalvertLeann Calvert Davis
Assistant Coach (Lynchburg 2003)

After a four-year playing career for the Hornets, Davis returned for her third season on the LC bench. She temporarily held the school record for digs in a season, posting 379 in 2001. She had a career hitting percentage of .216 with 943 kills and 864 digs in 396 games. Davis earned second-team All-ODAC honors in her senior campaign.

Davis graduated in 2003 with a degree in early childhood development and is currently pursuing her Masters degree in educational leadership. She also works for Nationwide.



Erin Mace
Assistant Coach

Erin Sheetz Mace was a four year setter for the Hornets from 1997-2000. In 2000 she broke the school record for assists in a season. Sheetz earned First Team All ODAC and Second Team All-State in 2000.

Sheetz graduated in 2001 with a degree in psychology and completed her Masters degree from LC in counseling in 2003. She is currently the Program Director for the Presbyterian Homes and Family Services in Lynchburg, VA.
