WHO IS THE SUPPORT SERVICES COORDINATOR (SSC)?
Located in the offices of Academic Advising and Career Services (on the second floor of Hall Campus Center), the Support Services Coordinator offers services to students who have disabilities.
WHAT DOES THE SUPPORT SERVICES COORDINATOR DO?
The SSC coordinates services such as classroom accommodations, hiring interpreters, acquiring adaptive equipment, and serves as liaison with faculty and professional agencies in the community. Appropriate accommodations are made on a case by case basis and are based on individual intake interviews and evaluation of a completed documentation file.
- The SSC also provides services to students with temporary disabilities (broken leg or arm, recovering from surgery who may need accommodations while they are dealing with their condition).
- It is also a good place for students to go if they suspect they have a disability. Staff may be able to provide information and referrals.
WHEN SHOULD STUDENTS APPLY FOR SERVICES?
Students should apply for services as soon as possible, preferably as soon as they have made a commitment to attend the College. Some disabilities require early notification when the employment of interpreters, scribes and/or aides is required; or consultation with medical providers, case workers, state or federal agencies is necessary in order to coordinate services and the acquisition of adaptive equipment.
