Academic Recovery Program
The Academic Recovery Program (ARP) is a voluntary program designed to assist students on academic probation. The goal of the program is to allow students to become successful academically by assisting the development of critical skills, such as time management, goal setting, organization, use of available resources, and balancing academic and social demands. Students are invited to participate through U.S. Postal mail prior to the start of the semester with follow-up outreach initiated through email.
Data indicates that students who participate in ARP finish the semester with a higher QPA average than non-participants, as well as a higher retention rate. Furthermore, ARP participants continue to persist at the College with a better QPA in subsequent semesters.
Earning a Satisfactory QPA at Lynchburg College
A complete description of quality point averages, as well as other requirements for graduation, can be found in the ollege catalog under Academic Regulations. Catalogs are available in hard copy during SOAR (Student Orientation and Registration) and online at http://www.lynchburg.edu/catalog.
A first-semester freshman must earn a 1.8 semester QPA or better to remain in good standing. A second-semester freshman must earn a 2.0 semester QPA or better. After a student reaches sophomore status a cumulative QPA of 2.0 must be maintained to stay in good standing.
Students who are unable to maintain regular standing are placed on Academic Probation. The ARP is intended to support those students as they work to pull up their QPA's.
