Phi Alpha Theta, the international honor society in history, recognizes outstanding academic achievement in history and attempts to promote interest in history throughout the campus.
Phi Alpha Theta, Philia Anthropos, Theos, stands for Love, Humanity, and God, and promotes the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication, and the exchange of learning among fellow historians.
The Lynchburg College's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta is Alpha Beta Upsilon. Membership is contingent upon a 3.0 or better grade point average overall and a 3.1 or better GPA in twelve hours of history. Students are recognized once a year, usually during Parent's Weekend, with an induction ceremony and reception.
The faculty advisor for Phi Alpha Theta is Dr. Brian Crim, assistant professor of history.
