Top 10 Test Taking Strategies

Before the Test
1. Don’t cram. Start reviewing regularly 1-2 weeks before the test.
2. Learn and understand how to use all formulas, rules, equations, etc.
3. Make a study guide using notes from class and the book.
4. Redo Quizzes and Homework. Try the even-numbered problems.
5. Try to identify what questions might be on the test.
6. Practice the examples in the book.
7. Seek outside help when you don’t understand.
8. Spend equal time studying easy and difficult sections.
9. Listen carefully for hints during lecture.
10. Pair up and teach others verbalize the math.
During the Test
1. SHOW ALL WORK!
2. Write memorized formulas and equations at the beginning of the test.
3. Don’t leave a problem blank, show what you know for partial credit.
4. Glance at the entire exam, and work the easy problems first.
5. Check your work.
6. Look for hints in multiple part questions.
7. If you find you worked a problem incorrectly don’t just erase, just start over.
8. Have a panic strategy.
9. Work problem on scratch paper then recopy on test.
