PANAMA CITY, FL - Defensive miscues cost the Lynchburg College softball team its first game at the NFCA Leadoff Classic DIII Tournament, held at Panama City. Ramapo College (NJ) defeated LC 5-2 at Frank Brown Park.
The Hornets got on the board in the first frame, as a Jenny Carroll (Toana, VA/Lafayette) single scored Lauren Duguay (pictured left - Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown). Maggie Scarpelli homered for the Roadrunners in the top of the second, but LC took a 2-1 lead off a Duguay solo shot in the bottom of the third. Ramapo tied the score at two in the top of the sixth and loaded the bases with one out. A Hornet error allowed all three runners to score, and Ramapo went on to win 5-2.
Carroll, Duguay and Ashley Hohenberger (Wake Forest, NC/Longwood) each had two hits for LC (6-3). The Hornets will face Louisiana College tonight at 6:30 p.m.
