- To rent gear from New Horizons, the person renting the gear must have a Lynchburg College student or employee ID. Payment can be made with cash or check made out to Lynchburg College. Persons renting gear may also charge it to their campus account.
- Rental is given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Any cancellation due to weather may be refunded; however, the conditions are open to discussion with the coordinator, Paul Stern (stern.p@lynchburg.edu), 434/544-8224.
- New Horizons expects that all gear will be returned in the same condition as it was rented. Any damaged equipment must be replaced at full retail cost of the replacement.
- Cleaning: $40 minimum charge. Any cooking equipment must be cleaned before being returned to New Horizons. Tents should be shaken out to remove dirt, grass, and other debris, and air-dried. (We do not want to charge for this; please understand we also would rather have you clean your rental gear.
- Gear will be lent out at a designated time. If the gear has not already been paid for in full, payment should be completed at this time. All gear should be returned at the designated time (typically the morning after the trip is completed, but not later than 10 a.m. the next day). If gear is not returned on time, a late fee of the original single night amount will be charged. Every day thereafter will add another single-night charge. For example: a person rents a backpack and fails to return it at the designated time. The original charge of $5 will be charged. On the second day, $5 more will be charged making the total late fee $10 (not $6 as is the cost for a two-day rental.)
- New Horizons reserves the right to request a member of the group set up tents or demonstrate use of equipment prior to rental, so that any questions regarding the operation of the equipment may be answered.
- Users must provide their own batteries for head lamp rentals.
- A cook set includes a pot, a pan, a lid, a flexible spatula, and a pot gripper.
- New Horizons is not responsible for keeping the participants safe while using New Horizons gear. Any incident that occurs on the trip is the responsibility of the individuals on the trip. If an incident occurs involving New Horizons gear, New Horizons is not liable.
