Records in the making
Allie Weir '10 set the national record for career goals in field hockey and tied for career points.
The 5'3'' Richmond native set the NCAA Division III record for points, surpassing the former record of Bates College's Priscilla Wilde of 120 set in 1976. Allie has 131 career goals and 297 points, tying the Division III career points record held by Danae Chambers (Messiah, 2004).
The Hornets won four Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) titles in Allie's career and advanced into the NCAA Division III Tournament four times. She was named an NFHCA third-team All-American as a junior and earned co-ODAC Player of the Year honors in the same campaign. She is a four-time first-team All-ODAC and three-time All-State honoree.
"I've always been more focused on the team goals and records than any of the individual accomplishments," said Allie. "I've only been able to score as much as I have because of the unselfish teammates we have. Breaking scoring records is a nice bonus, and hopefully it brings the sport of field hockey more attention."
This season LC was 18-5, falling to Ursinus College in the second round of NCAA tournament play.
Allie's sister, Jenny, was also a large reason for the team's success the last several seasons. A junior midfielder, Jenny has been recognized on the all-ODAC team in each of her first three seasons.
"Allie and her teammates have very strong work ethics and are bright young women," said head coach Enza Steele. "This is a very goal-oriented group."
