Theatre Scholarship Competition
The Theatre Scholarship Competition offers students with great skill and promise the opportunity to enhance their abilities in theatre art.
While all students are encouraged to participate in theatre at the college level, freshmen and transfer students with special talents and abilities in theatre will be recognized with individual scholarships. Lynchburg College is proud to host the Theatre Scholarship Competition to recognize outstanding theatre talent among prospective students. Theatre scholarships are renewable for three additional years beyond the freshman year. In addition, Theatre Scholarship awards may be combined with other merit-based scholarships awarded by the College. All freshmen and transfer students are eligible and encouraged to apply, regardless of major.
The Scholarships
$1,000, $2,000, and $3,000 awards
($4,000, $8,000, and $12,000, four-year totals respectively)

Audition/Interview Process
The adjudicators are Lynchburg College theatre faculty members.
Performance auditions
Auditions must include the following:
Acting applicants: Prepare two contrasting monologues, memorized, which total no more than four minutes (i.e., one comic and one serious piece, or one Shakespeare and one contemporary piece). Material should be of good literary quality, suited to the actor's age and experience, active more than narrative, without extremes of profanity.
Musical theatre applicants: Prepare two musical theatre songs - one up tempo and one ballad of no more than two minutes each. At least one of the songs should be from a musical written before 1965. No pop, rock, gospel, or a cappella songs. Please bring a high quality accompaniment tape or CD. Applicants also have the option (not required) to present one monologue of one to two minutes.
Dance applicants: Prepare a two-three minute dance/movement piece demonstrating the student's best skills. Dancers should also prepare one monologue of one to two minutes and be ready to talk knowledgeably about their performance experience. Please bring a high quality accompaniment tape or CD.
Technical Theatre: For the interview, bring a portfolio or any type of material that helps illustrate the student's experience. All of the following are appropriate:
• Programs with the student's name indicating responsibilities on various productions
• The student's technical drawings, light plots, costume sketches, make-up designs, set designs, etc.
• Photos of costumes, sets, lighting, makeup, etc. that the student created
• Stage manager's prompt books, assignments, etc.
Prepare a five-ten minute presentation explaining the student's best work. Following the presentation, the student will have a 15-minute interview with faculty who watched the presentation.
