BOX SCORE

Stephen LeggHAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Senior midfielder Stephen Legg (Newport News, VA/Denbigh Baptist) posted a goal and an assist to lead LC to a 2-1 second-half comeback victory over Hampden-Sydney College in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) semi-finals. Lynchburg, seeded #3 in the tournament, will face the winner of #1 Virginia Wesleyan vs. #4 Roanoke on Saturday for the Championship. If VWC wins, LC will travel to Virginia Beach, VA; if Roanoke wins, LC will host the title game.

Each team had a few good chances to score in the first-half, but good play by the defense and goalies thwarted many of the chances. However, Nick DeProspero  converted a pass from Brandon Haynes to put the host Tigers up 1-0 2824 into the game, a lead they would maintain until half-time.

The Hornets came out strong after intermission and had several more good opportunities to score. LC would get the tying goal in the 60th minute as Legg sent a right to left cross to Michael Abbonizio (Maple Glen, PA/Hatboro-Horsham). Abbonizio, lined up on the left side of the goal, delivered a header into the back right corner, far out of reach of the goalkeeper. The Hornets stung again in the 67th minute as Legg fired off a shot that was blocked by a defender, but he was able to collect the rebound and tuck it in the right side of the goal.

Hampden-Sydney continued to play aggressive and had several good possessions that could have led to scores. The best chance came on a corner kick when a Tiger player kicked the ball to the low left corner, but Josh Reed (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) was there to save the day as he kicked the ball out of the box. LC would keep the Tigers in check the remainder of the contest to hold on for the 2-1 victory.

Lynchburg (15-2-2) outshot Hampden-Sydney (16-4-0) 18-11, including a 11-6 advantage in the second half. Tiger keeper John Robert Plyler notched six saves while LC's Matt Sturdivant (Bear, DE/Caravel) tallied four saves. A physical and chippy contest, 37 fouls were called with LC recording 22 to 15 for HSC.

Game time and location for the ODAC Championship game is to be determined
