LC Box Score vs. R-MC

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College Hornet field hockey team scored three second-half goals in coming from behind to defeat No. 4 seeded Randolph-Macon College 3-1 Tuesday in the semi-finals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament.

Jordan Warrington scored the game-tying and game-winning goals Tuesday night in a 3-1 win over R-MC.                Lynchburg (16-4) advances to the tournament final for the fourth consecutive season, as it has won the past three ODAC crowns. Lynchburg will take on Eastern Mennonite University for the fourth straight year in the league final, as EMU knocked of Washington & Lee University 3-1 Tuesday evening.

Randolph-Macon came into the contest winners in 11 of its last 12, and took advantage of its lone scoring opportunity in the first half. Freshman Meredith Young banged home a goal at 24:44 of the contest, thanks to a pass from Mary McCarthy. The Hornets outshot R-MC (11-10) in the first half by nine, but couldn't find the cage.

The second half proved to be a different story, as Lynchburg buried three of its 25 shots for the comeback win. Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, DE/Indian View) evened the scored at one with an unassisted goal 4:01 into the period, and notched her 20th of the season less than 10 minutes later to pull ahead 2-1. Senior Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) scored an insurance goal with 33 second to go to ice the contest.

The Hornets outshot the R-MC 37-3 on the game and were awarded 16 penalty corners to the Yellow Jackets' one. Randolph-Macon keeper Nicole Woodworth made 14 saves in the contest, while LC's Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) turned aside one shot in the win. Senior defender Samantha Marano (Camden, DE/Caesar Rodney) was also credited with a defensive save in the flurry before the R-MC goal.

A rematch of the ODAC final of the last three years will take place Saturday on Shellenberger Field, as the Lady Royals of EMU come to town. Game time for the championship final is yet to be determined.
