About 20 Lynchburg College students and eight faculty and staff are sleeping outside November 9-14 as part of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week despite nonstop rain.
The "Solidarity Sleepers" have been camping on the porch of Snidow Chapel and plan to build a cardboard city Wednesday night.
Junior Angela Massino, who came up with the idea for "Solidarity Sleepers," has created a video to promote the effort, which will benefit The Gateway and Miriam's House, two Lynchburg-based shelters that aim to get men and women back on their feet. Check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeGG-gIBVKg.

Sunday, Nov. 8: Day of Fasting
Monday, Nov. 9: Hunger Banquet at 5:30 p.m. in the Burton East Room. Students will draw lots to determine whether they receive crackers and water for dinner or a sumptuous meal.
Tuesday, Nov. 10: Wasted Food Weigh-In. SERVE will collect all uneaten food to make students more conscious about how much food they waste during lunch and dinner.
Wednesday, Nov. 11: Panel for Perspectives on Hunger and Homelessness, 7 to 9 p.m., Hopwood Auditorium
Thursday, Nov. 12: Census Information: education about the importance of participating in the U.S. Census.
Friday, Nov. 13: Students will put together backpacks of school supplies, canned goods and clothing for underprivileged youth
Saturday: Student will package 20,000 meals to feed the hungry overseas. Live music by Paul Brunett, sponsored by SERVE and OSA.
Lynchburg College Choral Union Concert to benefit the Lynchburg Area Food Bank, 7:30 p.m., Snidow Chapel. Admission will be by a donation of cash or non-perishable food items for the food bank.
