LC Box Score vs. Rhodes

LYNCHBURG, VA - The No. 8 Lynchburg field hockey team got all three goals from Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) and Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) as the Hornets knocked off Rhodes College 3-1 Monday in non-conference action from Shellenberger Field.

Jenny Weir scored twice for LC in a 3-1 triumph over Rhodes College.                LC (14-2) extended its winning streak to ten games, which marks the fifth straight season the Hornets have reeled off a double-digit win streak. The Hornets jumped on the board early thanks to a Jenny Weir goal at 6:22, assisted by the eldest Weir.

The all-time Division III goal scorer would add to her record total 27:38 in the match, as she lifted a shot past Rhodes keeper Meghan Cullen to give Lynchburg a 2-0 lead. Jenny Weir capped the Hornet scoring less then a minute later at 28:33, burying an unassisted tally on a loose ball right in front of the cage.

After intermission, the Lynx (8-4) pulled to within two thanks to a Libby Feaster goal off of an assist from Charlie Wagner. Rhodes continued to pressure throughout the second stanza, but a LC defense led by Signey Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) held stout.

The Hornets outshot their visitors 31-3, and picked up 10 penalty corners to the one of Rhodes College. Cullen finished with 13 saves for the Lynx, while Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) earned the win in net for LC, playing the entirety.

Allie Weir and Erin Majerowicz (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) also broke the Lynchburg career games played record Monday, getting in to their 85th contest as a Hornet. Weir is also only 10 points shy of the Division III points record, which stands at 297 currently.

Lynchburg returns to Shellenberger Field Friday evening for a rematch of the last three Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament finals, as the Lady Royals of Eastern Mennonite University come to town for a 7 p.m. contest.
