Four Hornets Garner ODAC Player of the Week

LYNCHBURG, VA - Four Lynchburg College student-athletes garnered Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Week awards this week.

Ricky Flynn (Lynchburg, VA/Damascus) placed third in the Gold Meet of the Blue Ridge Open which boasted a field of 16 NCAA Division I teams and two NCAA Division II teams to earn the men's cross country honor this week. Flynn ran a time of 24:53 and was the fastest collegiate runner, outpacing Lance Harden of Davidson who ran a 25:07. The field featured ACC teams Wake Forest and Clemson University as well as many Big South Conference and Southern Conference squads.

Jennie Pernisi (Camden, NY/Altmar-Parish Williamstown) reigned victorious by a wide margin of 21 seconds in a mostly Division I laden field at the Blue Ridge Open on Friday afternoon from Boone, NC, en route to earning women's cross country player of the week. The women's cross country team also finished in fourth place. Pernisi ran the seventh fastest 5K time in school history as she clocked in with a time of 19:20 and breezed the second place finisher, Devotia Moore of Duke University, who finished in 19:41.

Sophomore forward Joanie Snyder (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) was honored as the women's soccer player of the week as she led the Hornets with four goals last week in three games and two assists. She scored once against Bridgewater College Saturday in a 3-0 ODAC win and followed up with three goals and an assist Sunday in a 5-0 win against Methodist Sunday.

Senior Michael Butzgy (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) won his first collegiate golf tournament on Monday, as he shot a three-under par 141 over the two-day Virginia Intercollegiate Tournament held at the par-72 Wintergreen Resort to snatch the golfer of the week award. Butzgy fired a second-round 71 to clinch the win, as he held off Max Wyndorf from Randolph-Macon College. Butzgy opened the tournament with a round of 70, which was the best 18 holes of the two-days. The round of 70 was also his low round of the season, and tied for his best time out as a Hornet.
