Hornet Women's Soccer Records Third-Straight Shutout to Beat BC 3-0
LYNCHBURG VA - The Lynchburg College women's soccer team pitched its third-straight shutout Saturday evening en route to a 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over visiting Bridgewater College.
The contest was scoreless for much of the first period, before the LC offense got untracked just before intermission. Senior midfielder Ashley Hoath (pictured left - Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) scored an unassisted goal at the 38:46 mark, and Jess Mader (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) found Kristen Melchiori (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) under two minutes later to push the Hornets to a 2-0 halftime advantage. Joanie Snyder (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) scored an insurance goal from Hoath with 16 minutes left in the contest.
Junior goalie Anna Wright (Ashland, VA/Patrick Henry) made five stops in net for LC, including a diving save of a penalty kick with just a two-goal edge early in the second half. Cari Hensley and Shauna Manovich split time in the net for the Eagles (11-4-1/5-3 ODAC) and combined for eight saves. Lynchburg outshot BC 27-8 and held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
Lynchburg (9-2-3/6-1-1 ODAC) faces non-conference opponent Methodist University Sunday at 4 p.m.
