LC Box Score at Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, VA - The No. 8 Lynchburg College field hockey team continued its winning ways on Wednesday, knocking off Bridgewater College 8-2 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play from Mapp Field.

Shelly Milks scored twice for Lynchburg Wednesday in an 8-2 victory.                The victory marked the ninth straight for Lynchburg (13-2/6-0 ODAC), as LC also moved to 6-1 in true road games this season. Senior Erin Funkhouser (Natural Bridge, VA/Menchville) opened the scoring 1:08 into the contest on a deflection of an Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) shot.

Junior Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) scored the next two goals for LC, both coming unassisted, before freshman Shelly Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) netted the final goal of the first half at 27:27 of the match. After intermission, Lynchburg kept the attack on scoring four more times.

Allie Weir converted a penalty stroke to extend the lead to five, and Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, DE/Indian River) buried a shot at 45:07 to up the LC bulge to six. Shelly Milks scored to extend the lead to seven, and Funkhouser closed the Hornet scorebook how she opened it with a goal from Jenny Weir. Warrington extended her points streak to 10 games, the longest of her short career.

Bridgewater's Leah Cossentino and Brianna Jacques scored late tallies, who fell to 7-7 overall and 1-5 in the conference. BC goalkeepers Taylor Waddell and Elizabeth Sullivan combined to make eight saves, while Hornet keeper Tiffany Frye (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) made four saves in relief. The Hornets outshot their host 22-6, while also holding a 12-4 edge in penalty corners. LC has now defeated the Eagles 12 consecutive times, dating back to 1997.

Lynchburg will be off for fall break before taking on Rhodes College Monday on Shellenberger Field at 7 p.m.
